Valentine's - I Survived!

Well... Valentine's came... Valentine's went... and guess what??? I survived.. it was just like any normal day.

I remember the days back in school when we'd get so hyped up about valentine's day... time to write those secret notes to your crushes etc etc... coming from an all girls school.... it was 'normal' to have crushes on your classmates etc etc. I used to see the butches give their passives flowers, notes etc etc... and even some of the students used to give their teachers little notes and stuff... especially the younger more popular teachers....

After school, came the Boyfriend/Girlfriend period for most of us... I was 'lucky' to be in that phase for about 4 years, being more the giver than the receiver on this lurve-filled day... then... after that.. it just became a normal day... except for the fact that you see couples all lovey-dovey...

Valentine's has become so commercialised and hyped up that it no longer has that meaning... exactly what is the meaning of Valentine's day and how did it begin??? Well I'm sure you'd find the full & conscise description in Wikepedia so I'm not gonna go into that... however, I will tell you what I saw thru my own eyes this Valentine's day...

On the bus to work, the 14 passes a lot of Secondary schools... particularly the ones nearer Bedok... group of students got on.. most of the girls carrying roses and 2 carrying what I believe is the latest trend.. stuffed toy like rose.. cute but most definately expensive.

At work, saw a few couples strolling by.. girls arms in tow with their honeys and holding their lovely bouquets...

After work, I met up with a friend for a drink and while we were chatting, another guy came up to say hi.. and I overheard that he went into the business of selling roses today... single roses at $10 a pop and bouquets starting from $89!!! In one day, he made $600 profit... assuming that his cost was about half that or less!!!

And then Valentine's was over... Now if everyday was Valentine's... things might be different.....or would it really???

All in all, at midnite, I sent out a nice Valentine's message to about 10 of my closest friends and family.. and I got back one reply almost instantly from a close gal pal.. *muacks* back.. and later in the day, surprise surprise, I got one V-Day message from the least likeliest of persons but hey.. it was a nice surprise.. and basically that's it!

So much for Valentine's day huh? At least at Easter I'd get a better response...

Valentine's... Bah Humbug! :D
